Fed: Howard in touch with ASIO on Gallipoli safety

Prime Minister JOHN HOWARD says he's in regular touch with ASIO over the safety ofAustralians going to Gallipoli for this year's Anzac Day.

Mr HOWARD says the government will tell Australians if the security situation changes.

But he says for now the government is relying on the travel advice issued by the Departmentof Foreign Affairs and Trade which says visitors should be aware of security threats inTurkey.

The prime minister says he's not going to ask people NOT to go to Gallipoli, but hewants to draw attention to the travel advice.

Mr HOWARD says media reports from Turkey of al-Qaeda terrorists in Turkey are news to him.

And he says he's happy with Treasurer PETER COSTELLO going to Galliploi for Anzac Day.
